Italian ports in recovery, how much does the Mediterranean weigh in port trade?

The latest collected data demonstrate once again how much Italian ports represent an asset of absolute value within the world trade geography: the Mediterranean Sea is more the protagonist than ever, and the leadership of our country's ports is characterized as a real driver for the national economy.
The recovery of traffic by sea, in particular from China, will mainly concern the product category of bulk goods, liquid and solid, containers and other goods in general, with a decrease for goods on rolling stock but an improvement for passenger transport. That of shipping is an indicative recovery, which travels on a separate track given that 80% of goods continue to travel by sea, in spite of air and road transport.

Transport Italy-China growing, Mediterranean protagonist

The shipping sector today therefore represents a fundamental pawn and an absolute point of reference in the ambitions of any reality that has the objective of intercepting a more or less important slice of the enormous flow of goods to and from China linked to Italy.
In fact, if we talk about shipping, we cannot fail to refer to China: 40% of the port logistics operations that take place every day depend on the East, which today represents the largest importer and exporter on a global level.
Hence, ports are finally perceived as a fundamental factor for the development of the country and of the individual territories.

Shipping as a driving force for the national and global economy

But when we talk about China, can we actually talk about a monopoly? Maybe not, but the numbers are really very important and Italy, which plays an extraordinarily important role in this context, is characterized as a real bridge between East and West.
“The value of ports and the sea economy in the geopolitical and geostrategic sphere is growing day by day, and the growing attention of the political world is an important indicator. The data are showing a strong ability to react, and all the players in the sector are working decisively to support the objectives promoted decisively by the Government" comments the president of Assoporti Rodolfo Giampieri.
The stabilization of Italian port trade at pre-Covid levels is an equally important fact for what Italy must represent in the Mediterranean context.
Investments in infrastructure and real support for the "Blue Economy" by the institutions could be the key to growth destined to continue and increase over the years.
