Environmental protection and ports, the push starts from Singapore

Un Global Center for Sustainability… A great idea that is no longer a utopia: the initiative starts from Singapore, to be precise from Singapore port which is in fact a candidate to become one of the nerve centers for the environmental protection in the port area, a theme that we have already dealt with on the blog on several occasions Buonefra, a company that has been attentive to developments in this regard for years. The center, which as mentioned will closely deal with the sustainability-port factor, will be called Global Center for Maritime Decarbonization (GCMD), and was supported by the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) and six other founding partners (BHP, BW Group, Eastern Pacific Shipping, Foundation Det Norske Veritas, Ocean Network Express and Sembcorp Marine).

What are the objectives of the GCMD?

The primary purpose of the initiative is to favor in a concrete and constant way energy transition of the maritime sector as a whole, drawing up tailor-made plans and programs for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, implementing a massive path of decarbonization. The economic base will rest on an endowment of 120 million dollars and the operations of the GCMD will start already in the immediate future, also involving the West in concert with the European Union programs in the field of sustainability.

Culture and sustainability in command

In full compliance with the vision of the organization, even the minds in charge fully embody its values: Lynn Loo, currently director of the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment at Princeton University, will play the role of CEO, while Andreas Sohmen-Pao, leader of BW Group and the Singapore Maritime Foundation, will serve as the post-appointment chairman of the board of directors of GCMD extension. After the green turning of the China who announced that they have embarked on the journey towards climate neutrality (we talked about it , promising), a new push from the East therefore comes from Singapore, testifying to the firm will to take seriously the theme of environmental transition, from east to west, also in port sector, one of the main branches of the economy not only in Italy, but in the world.
