Reefer transport is likely to be the hardest hit by the conflict

The conflict that has been going on for several weeks in Ukraine, which involves Russia and Ukraine itself, as seen also in recent days, has brought and will bring a series of disastrous consequences also for the world of maritime transport.
From the direct consequences on the international port system due to the developments in the strategic areas of Mariuopol and Odessa to the paralysis of import-export for Italy, up to an unclear EU policy in terms of security and therefore of competition as regards the dialogues with the area concerned: the evolution of the conflict from day to day represents an increasingly imposing obstacle for international trade and therefore for the economies of the states.
In this sense, the market linked to the transport of refrigerated products is heavily affected. Let's see together why ...

Reefer market in the freezer

As highlighted by Lloyd's List, last year, so before the outbreak of the conflict, Russia imported nearly 4 million tons of fresh produce, 40% of which were bananas, mainly from Ecuador and Central America, with an average 600 forty-foot containers (FEU) every week.
Ukraine and Russia together account for 4,5% of the world's annual refrigerated transport: a heavy percentage that gives the idea of how the reefer sector would suffer a very heavy blow in the event of a transport blockage.
The consequences would be very serious for all the actors involved, direct and indirect.

War affects logistics worldwide

In addition to the lack of raw materials, therefore, with aluminum, iron, wheat, sunflower oil and even feed that arrives with a dropper, the repercussions of the war on the world inevitably also affect logistics, port and otherwise, with harmful consequences. which will increase further if the conflict does not tend to calm down in the coming months.
A difficult future to decipher that of logistics, especially in correspondence with this situation that is really difficult to cope with, with some branches that are literally brought to their knees by a war that is being fought in one of the most important East-West trade hubs.
